Thread Colour Chart

These are the exact thread codes our embroidery machines run — all 719 of them, not a curated selection. Pick the codes you want, put them on your quote, and the mockup comes back in the right colours the first time instead of after a revision round. You can search by code, by colour family, or by the Pantone number your brand guide uses.

Match your artwork to thread colours

Drop in your logo and this reads the colours straight out of the file, then gives you the closest of our 719 thread codes for each one, with how close the match is. It all happens on your device — the image is never uploaded, and the page keeps working with your network switched off.

Know the code? Search the chart

All 719 codes are below. Filter by colour family, or search a Pantone number straight out of your brand guide.

Screen colours are a guide, not a match — every monitor renders them differently. The code is what we match on the floor. If an exact shade is critical, ask us for a photo of the cone before you approve the mockup.

Colours on screen are approximate. Thread codes are matched to the closest available shade; we confirm every colour on the mockup before stitching.

Your image stays in your browser — it is not uploaded.

Metallic and neon threads aren't matched automatically — ask on the quote.

Which patches use these codes?

  • Embroidered patches are stitched entirely from these threads — every code on this chart runs on custom embroidered patches without a special order. The same threads run the lettering and outlines on leather patches.
  • Chenille is different. Chenille patches are made from yarn, not thread, and yarn comes in its own much shorter range — so a code from this chart is a guide to the shade, not the actual material. Ask for the yarn options before you specify a chenille colour.
  • Printed and PVC don’t use thread codes at all. Printed patches are dyed, so they hold gradients and photographs that thread cannot, and PVC is moulded pigment. If your artwork has more colours than a thread palette can carry, printed is usually the honest answer.
  • Thread, twill and backing all affect the finished shade. The threads and twills reference covers what the base fabric does to the colour sitting on top of it.
  • Got your codes? Put them on a quote and they reach the digitizer with the order, so the mockup comes back in the colours you chose rather than the ones someone guessed.

Thread colour questions

How many thread colours do you stock?
We run 719 standard Candle embroidery thread colours, and every one of them is on this page with its code. That is the full standard range, not a selection — if a colour is on this chart, our machines can run it without a special order.
Can you match a Pantone colour in thread?
Not exactly, and nobody can — thread is dyed yarn, not ink, so there is no true Pantone equivalent. What we do is pick the closest code on this chart to your Pantone reference, which you can do yourself here by searching the Pantone number. The closest-Pantone label on each swatch is an approximation of an approximation (a scanned colour matched to a PMS colour), so treat it as a shortlist. If the shade is critical, ask us for a photo of the actual cone before you approve your mockup.
How many colours can one patch have?
Embroidered patches include up to about 12 thread colours at no extra charge, which covers the overwhelming majority of logos. Above that there is a surcharge, because each additional colour is another thread change on the machine. Chenille is different and much tighter — three yarn colours plus the base, because chenille yarn is bulkier than thread.
Can I find thread colours from my logo?
Yes. Drop your logo into the artwork matcher above and it reads the colours out of the file, then lists the closest Candle thread code to each one, with how close the match is. It works with PNG, JPG, WebP, SVG and PDF, and on a phone you can photograph a printed logo instead. If a colour matters more than the matcher suggests — an outline, a small detail — switch on pick mode and click that exact point.
Is my artwork uploaded when I match it?
No. The matching runs in your browser, on your device. The file is read, measured and discarded without ever being sent to us, which is why the block keeps working if you turn your network off after the page has loaded. Nothing is stored and nothing reaches our servers unless you send it to us yourself on a quote.
How accurate is the artwork match?
It is a shortlist, not a colour proof. The matcher compares your file's colours to the chart's own hex values in a perceptual colour space, and those hex values are themselves approximations of dyed thread. Screen colour, photo lighting and JPEG compression all move the numbers a little. Treat a close match as the right starting point and let the mockup settle it — we confirm every colour before anything is stitched.
Do metallic threads appear on this chart?
No. Metallics are a separate range — gold and silver plus a few shades — and they are not part of the standard chart because they run differently on the machine. Ask us if you want metallic thread in your design and we will tell you what is available and whether it suits your artwork.

Matching a colour costs nothing: there are no setup, art or digitizing fees on any order. See the full pricing breakdown or send your codes with a quote request.
