PES File Viewer

A PES file is Brother’s embroidery machine format, and unlike DST it carries real colour data. Drop one in and see the design rendered, the thread colours by name, design size, and stitch count. Everything runs on your device; the file is never uploaded.

PES is used across Brother and Babylock's whole range, from home machines to their commercial multi-needle lines, and Brother has revised the wrapper format several times over the years (v1 through the current v6+ generation) while keeping the actual stitch data — the PEC block inside — effectively unchanged. That's the field this viewer reads directly, rather than assuming one specific version number, which is why an older PES that fails to open in a newer program (or a newer one that fails in an older program) still opens here. Each colour in a PES file is stored as an index into Brother's real 64-colour thread catalog, so what you see below is an actual Brother thread name and catalog number, not a generic swatch.

Once your file loads, a Download PNG button next to the canvas saves the rendered design as an image — handy for a quick internal approval before you commit to an order, or for attaching the design to an email. The same size and stitch-count numbers that drive the patch price below also work for a stitch count calculator comparison if you want to see how the price changes at a different size before you commit.

Up to 10 MB. Parsed on this page — nothing is uploaded.

Want this design as a patch? Drop your file above — you'll see the price at 50, 100 and 500 pieces, then get a mockup in 24 h.

Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to attach it to a quote.

Have a DST file instead? See the DST viewer — or use the DST ↔ PES converter to go between the two, or the stitch count calculator if you don't have a file yet. Every design here is priced as a custom embroidered patch — get one digitized from a logo with embroidery digitizing, or match the colours you see above to our own threads on the thread colour chart. Background on the terms above: stitch types, thread weight and digitizing in the glossary.

PES viewer questions

Is this PES viewer free?
Yes, free with no signup, and there is no limit on how many files you open.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is parsed and rendered entirely in your browser and is never sent to our servers — the page keeps working with your network switched off after it loads. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to attach the file to a quote request.
What thread colours does it show?
PES stores each colour as an index into Brother's own 64-colour thread palette, so this viewer shows the real Brother thread name and catalog number for each colour, not a guess. Those are Brother's own thread names, not our Candle chart's codes — the two are different thread brands with different palettes.
Can I convert this PES file to DST?
Yes, with the DST ↔ PES converter below. Converting to DST drops the colour data — DST has nowhere to store it — and writes colour changes as plain stops, which is what a Tajima machine actually reads.
Can I export my PES as a PNG or PDF?
As a PNG, yes — once your file loads, a Download PNG button next to the canvas saves exactly what you see, useful for a quick internal approval or attaching to an email. There's no PDF export on this tool.
Will my PES run on a commercial Tajima machine?
No — Tajima commercial machines read DST, not PES. Convert your file with the DST ↔ PES converter first; the stitch positions carry over exactly, only the colour data is dropped, since DST has nowhere to keep it.
Can you make patches from a PES file?
Yes — drop it above and "Get this quoted" carries the file and its real stitch count straight into our quote form, with the thread colours already visible so we know what you're expecting.
