What custom letterman jacket patches are
A letterman or varsity jacket carries two kinds of patch. The big pieces are chenille: the school letter, the mascot, numerals and year patches, in raised looped yarn on a felt base. The smaller award pieces are embroidered: award stars, bars, sport icons and small year patches.
Either kind can be made the other way on request. Iron-on backing is standard, pressed from behind. For leather sleeves, sew-on is the better choice.
Letterman jacket patch sizes
Jacket letters run 4 to 12 inches. The most common front letter is 5 to 6 inches, and larger back pieces go up to 12 inches. Smaller mascots, numerals and award patches are sized to suit the jacket.
Styles for letterman jacket patches
Choose the classic block letter, a script style, or any custom font from your own artwork. Two-colour letters, outlined letters and felt trim are all standard, at the chenille price.
Minimum order: 5 pieces per design
The minimum is 5 pieces for each design. One letter plus two different award patches is three designs, so 5 of each: 15 pieces in all. A school or team order at higher quantities follows the quantity breaks in the price table below.
Care, washing and guarantee
Chenille patches are guaranteed for 25 washes (machine wash cold, inside out), from 14 October 2026, and this applies to every chenille patch we make.
If a chenille patch sheds, fades or lifts within 25 home washes when cared for as instructed (no bleach, no hot tumble-drying), we remake it free. It does not cover damage from ironing the front or from abrasion. All chenille, glitter included, is dry-clean safe.
Delivery and awards-night deadlines
Standard delivery is 11-15 business days in hand after mockup approval. Rush delivery is available, as soon as 5 business days. There is no seasonal cut-off, so orders are taken all year. For an awards-night deadline, see rush custom patches below.
