Free Embroidery File Tools
Custom patch resources / Free embroidery file tools
View DST and PES embroidery files, estimate or measure stitch count, and convert between formats — all in your browser. Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose to attach it to a quote. Every tool ties straight back to a real patch price, so you leave with more than a picture of your file.
These tools are for embroidery shops checking a job before they run it, digitizers proofing their own output, and buyers who were handed a DST or PES by a previous supplier and just want to see what's actually in the file. The DST viewer answers “what am I looking at” for a Tajima file, the PES viewer does the same for Brother/Babylock, the stitch count calculator answers “what will this cost” whether or not you have a file yet, and the DST ↔ PES converter moves a design between the two when your machine and your supplier's don't match. Nothing you drop on this page is ever uploaded — see “Do you upload my files?” below.
| Format | Which machine | Colour data |
|---|---|---|
| DST | Tajima, and most commercial multi-head machines | None — colour changes are unlabelled stops |
| PES | Brother and Babylock home and commercial machines | Carries the real Brother thread colours |
| EXP / JEF / VP3 | Melco, Janome, Pfaff/Husqvarna | On request — email us the file and our team will open it |
Not sure which one you need for a patch order? Either format works — see custom embroidered patches for the product, or start from scratch with embroidery digitizing if you only have a logo. For background on the terms these tools use, see stitch types, thread weight and digitizing.

Questions
- Are these embroidery tools free?
- Yes, all four are free with no signup and no limit on how many files you open or convert. We built them because the people who send us bulk embroidery work — digitizers, embroidery shops, resellers — open these files every day, usually in heavy desktop software.
- Do you upload my files?
- No. Every tool here runs entirely in your browser: files are read, parsed, rendered and converted on your device, and none of that ever reaches our servers. You can turn your network off after a page loads and the tools keep working. The only thing that leaves your device is a file you explicitly choose to attach to a quote request.
- What file formats do these tools support?
- DST (Tajima) and PES (Brother), which cover the two formats most commonly exchanged between shops and customers. The viewer and converter also read the bare PEC format PES files are built around.
- Which embroidery file format do patch makers need?
- Either one, or just your original artwork — we accept DST, PES and standard image/vector files, and our own digitizing team can turn a logo into a production-ready DST from scratch. If a previous supplier already handed you a DST or PES, upload it in the viewer above and get this quoted straight from that file.
- Can I order patches from an embroidery file?
- Yes. Every tool on this page ends in a real patch price at your quantity, and "Get this quoted" carries the file straight into our quote form for custom embroidered patches — no need to re-describe the design.
- Do these tools work with EXP, JEF or VP3 files?
- DST and PES (PEC) today — that covers the two formats most commonly exchanged between shops and customers. EXP (Melco), JEF (Janome) and VP3 (Pfaff/Husqvarna) are on request: email us the file and our team can open it, and it tells us there's demand for adding the format here.
